K&T were appointed as Structural, Civil, and Traffic Engineers for the Parc du Cap Parkade multi-storey parking garage for MMI Holdings (Metropolitan and Momentum) at their Parc du Cap office complex in Tygervalley, Cape Town.
MMI Holdings own and operate the Parc du Cap Office complex in Tygervalley. The office complex was in need of more on-site parking, and thus MMI commissioned K&T via their subsidiary, Eris Properties, to carry out the structural design of the Parc du Cap Parkade multi-storey parking garage. Boogertman + Partners Architects let the professional team in developing an efficient and cost effective design, to accommodate 980 vehicles as required by the client.
This reinforced and post-tensioned concrete structure contains five levels of parking and has the capacity for extension of two levels of offices above, if required in the future. It was built on a steeply sloped site in such a manner that the top deck of one side of the structure is level with the natural ground. This was achieved through lateral support of an eleven metre deep excavation. The foundations are founded in rock, which proved to make the excavations a challenging operation. The topmost decks are waterproofed with Xypex additive and cast to falls.
The project was completed on time by principal contractor Group Five Coastal, while Quantity Surveyors RLB-Pentad ensured the project was delivered within budget.
